Blind Ambitions Celebrates 35 Years In Business

WINNIPEG, MB: Blind Ambitions, a Winnipeg-based company specializing in custom blinds, drapery, and shades, is celebrating 35 years of serving Manitoba residents and businesses with high-quality window coverings.

When Jon Siddall opened Blind Ambitions in 1990, it was a one-man operation from a small office on Erin Street. Today, he and his team work out of a busy showroom and warehouse on Ellice Avenue.

Siddall credits the company’s longevity to its culture: One that encourages adaptation without sacrificing core values. “I would say the biggest changes have been in the technology,” said Siddall. “What has stayed the same is the importance of listening to people to identify their needs and priorities, so that we can come up with the proper solutions.”

Promoting this culture with his staff is crucial to Siddall: “Protecting the culture is extremely important as you grow. If I want my staff to really care about the clients, I had better care about the staff. I try to treat the staff in the same manner in which I would like them to treat the customer.”

As technology has evolved, the industry has also changed, and Blind Ambitions has had to adapt accordingly. “Motorization has forced us to develop our expertise. You can no longer consider yourself qualified to sell window coverings just because you have a sense of style or a flair with colour,” said Siddall. 

Siddall also commented on how window coverings have become an essential part of the move toward greener, more energy-efficient buildings: “Even though windows themselves have come a long way in terms of energy efficiency, they are still the biggest source of heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. Window coverings can make the biggest difference through the use of specific products and fabrics that are designed for energy efficiency.”

Now in its 35th year of operation, serving Winnipeg and the surrounding area, Blind Ambitions continues to provide consultations from its team of residential decorators and its commercial sales consultants.
